6. A False Promise of Divinity
“For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.” (Genesis 3:5)
For Satan to convince people of this involves two wrong views:
a. FALSE VIEW OF GOD - Satan tries to bring God down on man’s level.
b. FALSE VIEW OF MAN - Either man is divine, or he may attain it.
“You don’t need God, you are God.”
See (Isaiah 14:12-15, 41:18-25, 42:8, 43:10-11, 44:6, 45:22; Romans 1:18-23)
Examples of this False Promise:
Everything and everyone is God. God is an impersonal force or principle, not a person. People have unlimited inner power and need to discover it.
Each part of creation makes up “God” (Brahman). Supreme Being is not personal. All creation is divine; “all is one.”
God was once a man, but became God. He has a physical body, as does his wife (Heavenly Mother). We can become Gods. Plurality of Gods.
God is an impersonal Principle of life, truth, love, intelligence, and spirit. God is all that truly exists (matter is an illusion). The soul, or mind, of the spiritual man is God, the divine Principle of all being.
Everyone is a “thetan,” an immortal spirit with unlimited powers over its own universe, but not all are aware of this.
Re-imagining Conferences - started in Minneapolis, Nov. 1993. Participants asked to re-imagine God in a feminine light. Refer to God as “Sophia” - Greek word meaning “Wisdom.” A similar Conference was held at Bethany United Methodist Church in Clio, MI., the first week of March - 1995.
