4. “How do I get a cult member to realize they are not in (the) church?”

I like to ask people involved in a cult this question: “When did your church start?” Then I ask them this: Who was its founder? After I get their answer I say this: “Did you know in Matthew 16:18 Jesus said: “… I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it”?

Jesus has been building His church for about 2,000 years now.

Then I take them to Hebrews 4:14-15: “Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.

For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.”

Jesus has been functioning as the High Priest over His church ever since it started, or for about 2,000 years now.

Now I take them to Ephesians 3:21: “Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.”

God the Father has been receiving glory in the church by Christ Jesus ever since it began, or for about 2,000 years now. Then I ask: “Now when was it that you said your church started again?”

If your church was founded by some man or woman in the last 1700 years, can it be the church that Jesus has been building for 2,000 years? Can it be the church that Jesus has been functioning as High Priest over for 2,000 years? Can it be the church that God has been receiving glory in by Jesus Christ for the last 2,000 years?

Actually the church I belong to, can trace it’s beginning back to about 2,000 years ago. Do you still consider your church to be the “true” church?

Then I tell them: To be a part of the church that Jesus has been building for 2,000 years, is as easy as A-B-C.

If they are willing to listen, I show them what the Bible says about how they can become a member of the true church that Jesus has been building for about 2,000 years.

  1. Admit that you are a sinner, and are in need of God’s forgiveness. Rom. 3:23; 6:23; 5:8
  1. Believe that Jesus died for your sins, and then rose from the dead. Because He is alive He can hear and answer your prayers. Rom. 10:9-10
  1. Call upon Him through prayer and ask Him to forgive your sin, and come into your heart and be your personal Savior. Rom. 10:13

It might be good to brush up on your Baptist History too.

I have another method I like to use with Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Our faith is only as good as the object of our faith. In December, I could have a lot of faith in very thin ice, and it wouldn’t hold me up, and I might drown. However, in the middle of February, I might have very little faith in two feet of ice, but it would hold me up, and I would be safe.

You, as a Jehovah’s Witness are placing your faith in basically four things:

1. Jehovah God.

2. Jehovah’s Witnesses as “the” church.

3. The New World Translation of the Scriptures.

4. The Watchtower Society to interpret the scriptures for

you.

Let’s examine the object of your faith to see if it will hold you up.

1. Jehovah God.

No problem here as long as you know who Jehovah God really is.

2. Your group as “the” church.

Jesus promised to build and preserve His church. (Matt. 16:18) He has been doing that for about 2,000 years now. When did your church start? Didn’t Charles Taze Russell start it in 1872?

God has also been receiving glory from His church by Jesus Christ throughout every age for the past 2,000 years. (Ephesians 3:21) Does your church fit?

3. The New World Translation of the Scriptures.

Every word of God is important. In Matthew 4:4 Jesus promised to preserve His word without parts of it missing. Also in Matthew 24:35; 5:18; Rev. 22:18-19) Your translation has a lot of missing parts.

(Example: Acts 2:30; 8:37; I Tim. 6:5; Rom. 13:9; etc.)

4. The Watchtower Society to interpret the scriptures for you.

The Watchtower claims to be God‘s prophet on earth. How many prophecies have they made it the last 100 years that have actually come true. Would zero be about right?

The King James Bible doesn’t have parts missing. Read Acts 2:14-36; and compare John 12:35-41 with Isaiah 6:1-3; Rom 10:13 with Joel 2:32. Then see if they are willing to call upon the name of the true Jehovah God and ask Him to save them and they can be a true witness of Jehovah.
